cant shutoff avg antivirus

i got new antivirus software,and when i try to install,windows security center still shows avg,running,and up to date ,,,how the hell do i shut off avg,,ive already deleted all files associated with avg,restarted numerous times ,,,i just cant get it off windows security center,,i'm using xp with service pack 2,,,,,any help appreciated ,,im goin crazy!!!!

You deleted all files associated with AVG? You mean you went to c:\program files and deleted the grisoft folder? Or did you open control panel and remove avg with add/remove programs?

I would try add/remove programs first. However, if you deleted all the program files, windows won't be able to find the uninstaller for AVG. Try it, and if it doesn't work, download a registry cleaner. There's one (or more) available on this site.
