I just received the blue screen when using my dell laptop. I tried restarting multiple times and I still get the same blue screen.

    Stop: 0x0000007Ex (0x0000005, 0x86EEC3B2, 0xF7A7E270, 0F7A7DF6C)

I am running windows xp. I tried using last known configuration and I still get the blue screen. Also, if I try to startup in safe mode I just get stuck on a loading screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just noticed something new. When I try to startup in safe mode it gets stuck loading a file windows\system32\drivers\kmxstart.sys. Again, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

There is no stop error 0x0000007Ex; there is a stop error 0x0000007E. Is that perhaps what you see. If so, what words were with this stop error? i looked into this yesterday but nothing seemed to fit for your case, unless you are not running XP SP3.
Also your computer does not get stuck loading the file you see in safe mode. It gets stuck on the one after it - you won't ever see what it gets stuck on because what you see are the things that have loaded okay.

Yes you are correct with the stop error. I am using a handheld for Internet since the computer is down and it is tougher to type. Sorry. Here is the whole message on the blue screen:

a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapter.

Check with your hardware vendor for any bios updates. Disable bios memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.

I really appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks,

    Eric

The sentences you typed or not helpful, sorry. That is just MS talk that is added to any and all BSODs.
I was looking for something like
    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
    SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

Here's troubleshooting from MS but it is less than helpful, because you have to be able to boot into windows.

    The aumha site says this
But again, if windows won't boot up, it isn't possible to check the event viewer.

    Any USB devices attached?

I have no idea if this would apply

Sorry I can seem to find much that is useful for you.
