I have read the closed thread "READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support" () posted by Major Attitude, which says to perform the recommended processes in Safe Mode.

    I cannot get Safe Mode.

I'm using Windows XP Home Edition SP2. I click Start, Turn Off Computer, Restart and then keep pressing F8 until given a choice of how to start Windows. I choose Safe Mode then when the choice of Users come up I choose one and then my computer starts to open in Safe Mode. But, then it restarts itself. An error message comes up but its not there long enough to read and the computer just reboots.

Any ideas why it might not start in Safe Mode and any possible solutions?

    Thanks

    Mark

Click on Start, then Run. In the Run dialog box type "msconfig" and press enter to start the MSCONFIG utility
If you click on the Boot.ini tab you will see some checkboxes at the bottom under Boot Options. Click the checkbox next to /SAFEBOOT and select Minimal (if you really need network access while you are in SafeMode you can select Network instead).

After you make the changes the computer will need to be rebooted for the changes to take effect. The computer will boot into SafeMode and allow you to do what you need to do to clean any malware or other malicious software from your system.
Once you have completed the actions or tasks you needed to use SafeMode for, you need to reopen MSCONFIG following the instructions above and uncheck the /SAFEMODE box under Boot Options so that the computer will boot into normal Windows mode the next time you start it up.

I'm going to strongly reccomend against that. No offense jujet84.

The poster is experiencing a stop error trying to go to Safe Mode. Using msconfig only serves to make it so mark59 boots to the stop error automatically instead of going to normal mode--making things much worse.

Instead, I'd try this. From the advanced startup options choose disable automatic restart, and then try Safe Mode. Post what the error says, verbatim.
