Can't uninstall AVG 7

Hi,
I'm trying to uninstall AVG7 trial thru add and remove programs in XP, and I get a message that says "C:\program files\Grisoft\AVG7\setup dat failed"- It seems to think i'm trying to install rather than unininstall. I've tryed most methods including safe mode to uninstall with no luck. Also when I startup i get a message that says "Could not initialize AVG virus kernel interface App cannot run".

Dunno Baz. Maybe one of the uninstallers available her on MG, like your uninstaller might root it out.

Rats! Darn three minute limit on edit Your Uninstaller has that neat drag and drop thing going on too, very cool .

 

you could also look in the Grisoft directory and look for an uninstall EXE. Not sure if there is one, but it's worth a shot.

 

Try reinstalling it over your current installation. Might fix the startup problem and/or allow you to uninstall cleanly.

 

Thanks for the tips, I tryed to reinstall now the message says "Install failed. Error: Action failed for AVG 7 Dos: creating file general failure".

Yes, System restore in safe mode finally nailed it, i'm trialing different Virus software, so I will try to install a newer version of AVG 7 at some later date, I'm not confident it will install but right now Avast free is looking pretty good.

trialing myself... right now f-prot feels pretty good and the price isn't bad either. It's seems to have good detection rates on a few antivirus test sites.
