Can't Uninstall NAV2005 due to Auto LiveUpdate

Hello all - your help would be greatly appreciated...I'm trying to uninstall Norton Antivirus/Internet Security 2005 due to conflicts with other programs (other = EVERY!)...but it won't uninstall due to Automatic LiveUpdate running in the background, yet I can't shut off LiveUpdate to save my life! I have tried everything, Task Manager, deleting all LiveUpdate files, even tried Symantecs own SymNRT (removal tool)...any advice as to how to get this crap off my computer????

 

I don't know exactly the steps you took, but have you tried to uninstall it in Safe Mode, and preferably from Add/Remove?

Safe Mode will prevent Automatic LiveUpdate from running in the background.

If not, and again I don't know if you have tried this, but Symantec offer a couple of pages on how to remove it HERE and HERE.

The second one has a link for the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility which may also help.

One of the above methods should work in Safe Mode.

Reboot and repeatedly tap the F8 key.

Safe Mode will load basic drivers, so Automatic LiveUpdate won't be running.

Try uninstalling from Add/Remove preferably, then when you have finished, just reboot and it will boot up normally.

 

I tried, yet an error message came up saying Setup has detected your in Safe Mode, please reboot in normal mode to continue...pretty sweet, huh?
