Can't uninstall .NET 2.0 or update it

I must have the most goobered-up pc in the world... It's running very slowly (especially when I need to look at a directory - after the window finally appears, I can select the directory again and it pops right up). I think I could be having a processor overheat problem (it's a P4 2.9m, runs 72-80C) - But the problem I'm asking for help right now is that Win update is telling me that it needs to update .NET 2.0 and 1.1 - Both of the updates "fail" - that's all it says, "failed" - big help! I uninstalled 1.1 so maybe I can re-install it, but every time I try to uninstall 2.0, I get "Patch package could not be opened..." I'm really, really trying to avoid re-installing XP, don't want to reinstall all my apps, but maybe that's what I need to do?

 

Use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to uninstall .Net 2.0:

Then install .Net 2.0 again using this link:

Thanks that got 2.0 uninstalled. I reinstalled it, and then let the update occur, which went fine - thanks for the advice.

Now I have another question - I had both NET 1.1 and NET 2.0 installed, and uninstalled 1.1 - Do I need 1.1 if I already have 2.0?

 

From what I understand (but I could be wrong) the 1.1 code will work OK with 2.0 installed. If you start seeing issues, you can always reinstall 1.1.
