I tried uninstalling java and it would say "preparing uninstall' then "gathering information" and it would stop and not uninstall it. I then used windows installer cleanup and it seems to have done the job, but now when i go to the java site to reinstall it tells me " This software has already been installed on your computer. Would you like to reinstall it?" so i click yes and then it tells me " This action is only valid for products that are currently installed".Al this is stressing me out and don't know what else to do.

One thing i did notice is when i go into the control panel their an image of a page and under it says java. When i click on it it says "application not found". Don't know if this has anything to do with it but i'm out of ideas. Any help will be appreciated.

I went ahead and downloaded javaRa and ran it. It did seem to remove some java files but when i went back to the java site to reinstall java the same two messages came up. Thanks for the help but i'm still in the same position. The image with the java name in the attached picture still remains.

    Any folder here- C:\Program Files\java\jre6
    If yes delete.
Give this a run as well.

Run the cleaner. Then run the registry cleaner too. It will prompt to backup, do so.
    And welcome to MG's :)

    Cheers..

alright so i downloaded the revo_uninstaller and opened it up but the Java image doesn't seem to appear anywhere in the revo program. It seem like the Java image is running as part of the control panel menu!?! i have no idea how this could have happened. i attached another picture without the classic view of the CP menu to give you a better idea. Again when i click on it or try to open it, it say "application not found". It will only let me create a shortcut.

Thanks for the welcome. I'll give CCleaner a go and hope it helps me end this, thanks again. Funny how something so simple can become a big annoying problem.

last time that i used JavaRa to uninstall java ,it didn't remove the auto updater,
and the latest version would not install ,use this http://majorgeeks.com/Windows_Installer_CleanUp_Utility_d4459.html to remove the updater or any other java based installation ,use Ccleaner reg scan to remove anything else that java might have left behind ,then try to reinstall , this worked for me very well

REVO program & Uninstaller also has a 'Search' tool. I've run into the same thing, having a program not fully uninstall, then REVO didn't list it, because the whole program wasn't resident. May be found through REVO search tool, sometimes...

Might look in your drive and see if your original Java.exe installer file is laying around, install again from that, then uninstall with REVO to completely wipe all traces off the system, then install whatever you want.

It only takes one run of a poor 'drive cleaner' to mess up an uninstaller.

I tried it on administrator and non as explained but when i type in the command it says "javaws -uninstall is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program, or batch file".
    Thanks for the suggestion.

Bizarre!! Ok one more shot in- JavaRA there is an "Additional Tasks" tab. Check all and hit go.
Did you run Ccleaner? What OS are you on?

    Cheers..

I did as you said and ran it but it remains the same. It did remove this though.
