I uninstalled A2 and SpywareGuard but had to do a rollback because of something else I messed up. The programs no longer exist on my PC but I cant uninstall the folders, even in safe mode and SpywareGuard keeps causing a pop up that seems to be affecting the running of other software. Please advise me on what to do.

I kept digging for info after I posted here and found some advice to reinstall the software and uninstall again. Worked for SpywareGuard but one part of A2 wont let go, file is called a2freecontmeu.dll

By the way it was Spywareguard 1.1, not the dodgy 2008 version.

There are numerous programs to remove stubborn files/folders. One option would be avenger.

I will move your thread to software so you can have additional feedback.

a2freecontmeu.dll <---odd that if this was a legit a squared file it's strange that there's nothing on the web about it.

Let us know it's exact file path and as Tim suggested maybe avenger could be used or pocket killbox

I have no idea where to get Avenger, I did a search on Google and on Major Geeks and came up blank. A link to the download would be very appreciated.

Here's a more safe way. You'll probably need to change permissions.

Search with Search Companion (the one with the yellow dog in XP Home) - make sure to search in hidden files and folders also via advanced settings. Then delete - this is done by right clicking on the folder on Search Companions list. Then select Properties. This opens a small grey window with tabs. On one of the tabs it is possible to change permissions by putting a check mark in the little grey boxes. You need to allow yourself to delete. The software makers took that right away form you. Bastards!

You will be better of searching and deleting in safe mode. And search for other old security software while you're there. Things that you've uninstalled over the years.

About Safe mode: what you do is that you reboot. And right away you start tapping on the F8 key - from the second you hear your PC waking up again. You want to see white text on a black background. Then use the arrows on your keyboard to get to ordinary safe mode. You don't need "with network" or any of the other options.
