I get an error message when I try and update SuperAntiSpyware and a recommendation to make sure my firewall isn't blocking SAS. I use Windows XP firewall and have 3 different SAS exe files listed as exceptions, including SSUpdate.exe.

I completely uninstalled SAS using the Revo uninstaller, re-installed SAS but still no luck.

I have no problems updating AVG.

    What might be going on?

Have you tried temporarily disabling Windows Firewall entirely, and seeing if SAS updates?

    To do so:

    1. Open 'Control Panel'
    2. Open 'Network Connections'
    3. Identify the network interface you use to connect to the internet, right-click it, and select 'Properties'
    4. On the interface properties dialog, select the 'Advanced' tab
    5. Under 'Windows Firewall', press the 'Settings' button
    6. On the 'Windows Firewall' dialog, on the 'General' tab, select the 'Off' radio button
    7. Apply your settings
    8. Try to update SAS

In this way, we can truly eliminate Windows Firewall as the culprit. I would not trust that it was not, even considering your exceptions.

After deactivation of the Windows firewall I got the same error message.

Why don't you just download the standalone updated definitions file to your pc and update that way

That worked but the SuperantiSpyware problem is part of something else I think.

Even though internet works fine, including email and ftp I am unable to connect to GoogleEarth (even after uninstalling and re-installing it) or Adobe update.

Usually when I've seen problems with the inability to download/install anti spyware, it has been related to either malware or corrupt system files from an infection.

I see you have posted in the malware forum before, did you ever run through all of the steps as laid out there?

Regarding Google Earth, if you go to programs/accessories/system tools/internet, no add ons, can you access it with the no add ons browser version of IE.

By the way, what browser/version are you using? :wave:wave:wave

    I'm using FF 3.5.9

So, you think something might have gotten through the various defense systems, huh?

I just found yet another program that can't access the internet, although it usually does flawlessly.

Perhaps it's time for the MG cleaning procedure.
