I have Windows 10 Home on my PC and I cannot update Windows. I thought I may not be able to update Windows because in Settings I have set my Wi-Fi as a metered account. So, I changed it to unmetered and still could not update. Then I suspected O&O ShutUp may be stopping updates; therefore, I stopped O&O ShutUp so that it is currently managing no settings on my PC but still I cannot update Windows. I am at a loss to know what other information to provide or how to resolve this issue.

Thanks! There are four editions at that link. Which one is the one I should download?

Your version info will tell you if you have other than the standard version.

The standard version at the link says that you need to activate it with your Windows key. Is that the same as the Product ID in Settings where it gives details of your Windows version?

As you are already running an activated version I think it will activate automatically. I would always image my system prior to updating.

Are you still recommending Macrium Reflect? I still have it after your recommended I do the same prior to upgrading to Windows 10.

Yes, I do it every month and before any major change.

On Friday, my computer made a lair out of me. Although with the problem I reported on this thread I could see in Settings that updates were available I could do nothing about them. On Friday evening I went to turn it off and amongst the Power Options was one to update and restart, which I did. After the update I went into settings and have regained the option of checking for updates.

Therefore, what I would like to ask is as the problem reported in this thread is resolved would you still recommend I update the version. I have checked and I still have the same version but a different build. I ask because I do not know if your recommendation was to resolve my problem, which it obviously was, or if you recommend updating the version for a whole host of other reasons.

    Thanks!

It's simple in my book. Microsoft have totally committed the future of Windows to Windows 10 so there is absolutely no point in trying to hang on to Windows but in some earlier version. Better, if you cannot accept Windows 10, to cut the umbilical cord right now and switch to a non-MIcrosoft operating system. Personally I don't regard the Creators Update as being any sort of major milestone for Windows, rather just another step along the road, but if you aren't prepared to abandon Windows altogether then there isn't much point in resisting new versions as they appear. The only exception to this as I see it is with mission critical systems that are malfunctioning with 10. So, as you seem to be happy to stay with 10, you might as well go along with new versions as they appear, but protecting yourself with restorable images of versions that do work for you.

I have no idea why my straightforward question generated such a tirade.

I did not say I did not want Windows in any guise or Windows 10.

If Microsoft have committed the future of Windows to Windows 10 one would anticipate that the version would be updated automatically through the now mandatory Windows Update. Those who employ computers as a tool and who are neither IT experts nor enthusiasts may not know when new versions come out or where to get them. Indeed many of us thought Windows 10 was a version.
