    Hi,

I was trying to upload a screen shot of a problem I'm having on startup but the file won't upload to this message.

When I start up my computer (XP sp2) I get two boxes on my desktop that I don't want. One box is my documents, and the other one is a box of desktop icons.I can x out of them but was wondering why they are popping up.
I saved my screenshot on mspaint and saved it to desktop, but it won't upload.

    Any help would be appreciated.:confused

    Hi

A guide on how to attach items HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post but is your picture larger than 97.7 KB? IF so then its too large to attach, either shrink it down or crop the relevent parts out and re-save and attach, or use an online host like http://imageshack.us/ and with the resulting links they provide post the link to the image.

To fix the My Docs appearing at boot, envolves possibly a bit of registry editing, so open regedit, click Start > Run and type regedit

Then navigate to this key HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/Winlogon

There should be a user value data in the right side menu called Userinit, if so does it look like the picture below or has its value data been duplicated like this C:\windows\system32\userinit.exe,C:\windows\system32\userinit.exe, if so double click that line and delete everything to the right of the , so that it looks like the image in having only this C:\windows\system32\userinit.exe,

Do note that editing the registry is not to be attempted lightly and if done wrong and not to info can result in PC not starting, so backup your PC first,

If still showing look in your Startups for strange entries, CCLeaner and its Tools > Startup menu is good to post as a screenshot so that we can see what your startups are, especially if not happy with editing the registry.

Thanks Halo for the quick reply, I did what you said to do in the reg. but there was nothing extra at C:\windows\system32\userinit.exe

I also read on how to attach and I'm still getting errors attaching even though I have the attachment as small as I can get it.

I checked my start up and there is nothing unusual in it.:confused

I know why I'm getting errors on trying to attach, the files are all 2.5 Mb.

How do I make these files smaller? I'm using microsoftpaint.

    Thanks for any help.:confused

If you want to resize a picture you need another application as MS Paint doesnt give you that option. I personally like This one because its free and I find it super easy to use.. I've used it hundreds of times. There are others though feel free to look around Here if you wanna try something else.

You also could do what Kestrel suggested and upload it to a place like imageshack/photobucket/flickr and link to it on here.

    Good Luck!

    Screenshots/other images:

Irfanview is a great freeware picture utility that works great for resizing and compressing their size. Also, MS Paint's default save setting is BMP (I still wonder why). Save as a JPEG/JPG (you can select that option in the File Type in the Save/Save As dialog box of MS Paint).

What I personally do, is use the Print Screen button to take a snapshot of the screen, open up MS Paint, press CTRL+V (paste), save as a JPG, then open up the picture with Irfanview, save as a JPG, with the JPG options (enabled by checking the "Show options dialog" option at the bottom of the Save dialog box) set like the screenshot I'm including in this post. To make the file even smaller, you can decrease the Save Quality in the JPEG options.

For instance, I just took a screenshot (1280 x 800), dropped the Save Quality to 40, and the UNRESIZED screenshot is now 93.3 KB.

    I hope that helps!

EDIT: Irfanview can be downloaded from this website -- http://www.majorgeeks.com/IrfanView_d4253.html
