    Hello,
I am not a computerexpert so please bear with me.
my old (first) laptop was a Compaq Presario R4000-S/N: CND 517 08P6 running on XP Professional SP3. I loved it to bits. I used a Canoscan Lide 25 due to lack of space and though a bit slow, it worked perfectly.

My new laptop is a Compaq Presario CQ61 model: CQ61-330DB S/N: CNF 938 040D running on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
I also bought a Canoscan Lide 200. A newer and faster model.

After installing, the driver (ScanGear) can not be found .
The error message is: "The scanner driver supported by this software is not installed". Although the removal programm of this driver did installe. During installing , the pop up screen states that the driver is being installed in C:\Program Files\Canon BJ\..... but I can not find any Canon file in the Program Files. When uninstalled, the pop up screen shows the driver being actually deleted . I think that either Windows 7 or the Compaq configuration does not detect/recognise this installation?
Actions I have taken untill now are:
    - I downloaded the most recent 64-bits driver from the Canon site but no succes.
    - Searched the net ( Major Geeks first of course:) also no succes. I found the following pages http://www.windowslivehelp.com/thre...ce318a55#577dbe64-0638-4c86-8309-c293ce318a55 and http://www.geckoandfly.com/2010/04/...rinter-driver-for-microsoft-windows-7-64-bit/ but they are only partly relevant. I also tried using Windows Help without any succes.
    - I contacted the shop where I bought both my laptop and scanner. This is a one-man business, he helped me in the past many times so I buy all my stuff there. He did not know, but is also investigating.
    - I contacted Compaq and Canon but not yet a solution received. They did confirm receiving my mail.

Now get this: I installed the Can..200 driver on my old laptop but did not work either. Then I deleted the Can..200 driver, first installed the Can..25 driver, followed by the Can..200 driver and this works!!

I tried this on my new laptop, downloaded first the most recent 64-bit Can..25 driver of course, installed it, followed by the Can..200 driver, but this did not work. (Otherwise you would not be reading this.

I can temporary keep on working on my new laptop and use my old laptop for scanning purposes. But firstly: because of the lack of space it is tedious and time consuming and second: the reason I bought the new laptop is that the screen of my old one turns regulary black and I fear that one of these days it will remaine black.

I would be very grateful for any advise or information in this matter.

    Many thanks and regards,
    Merxem

    Hi

What version is the driver you downloaded? (just curious as some countries support sites list different versions at times)

In Device Manager do you have any items listed with a yellow ! mark?

One thing I would try is to uninstall the driver and any Canon software again, and run CCleaner to delete any temps folders, and then run its registry cleaner, keep running it until no items are listed for removal.

Disable any Antivirus and Security apps.

Then right click the Canon driver exe and choose Run as Administrator and see if that allows the driver to correctly install.

    Good day Halo,
    thanks for replying.
The driver version is: LIDE200vst641403EA24 from the Canonsitehttp://software.canon-europe.com/software/0034618.asp?model ,
I did not find any yellow ! mark in Device Manager.
I have followed your advise but after installing and connecting the scanner windows does not find a driver and installs it's own. This means that the scanner does make a sound and windows finds it, but there is no program which I can use to make scans. This program ScanGear is not recognised by the computer.
Problem is that this program is included in the driver and can not be downloaded seperatly.
    Best regards,
    Dirk

    Hello again,
as Canon and Comaq are blaming each other does anyone have a scanningprogramm which is not related/made by a brand? An independant scanningprogramm one can say. I did not find any untill now, but as Windows 7 installs it's own driver an indepentand scanningprogramme will do the trick.

    Many thanks and regards,
    Dirk

    Hi Dirk

Great that two large companies are blaming each other, and funny thing is the Windows built in driver would have been supplied during the beta phases of Windows 7 to Microsoft from Canon!!

But glad you have a working driver and as for the scanning app, well may not be perfect but the likes of XNView, Gimp and IrfanView all while graphic apps and managers, can also scan using the Twain driver that Windows will have installed for you, then you have some good tools for editing and saving the resulting scan.

    Hi Halo,
I will sertenly make use of one of these programs then. Untill now Canon did not reply to my last mail. My providor asked my laptop and the scanner. He will keep contact with Canon and Compaq in my name as he can go "deeper" and has more knowlidge.
I hope in the not so far future to report the solution of Canon and if not whether scanning with these graphic programs works.

    Many thanks for the help!
    Dirk
