can't use links on internet explorer 8

I'm working on trying to fix a problem on my sister-in-laws laptop. When she tries to open a link on the internet or in an e-mail it doesn't work. I'm thinking it's a .dll file error but don't know quite how to fix it. Found a place which said to try a fix at the "link listed below" but since she can't get links to work and there was no web address to go to it was a useless solution. I think the .dll file that is either missing or corrupt is something like oulet32.dll. Any ideas please? I'm by no means computer super savy but I can follow instructions.:confused

 

Found the actual .dll file name and it is oleaut32.dll which is causing the error but still can't find a fix that works. Can someone please help?

 

Well, i don't know what you see so you must be specific.

when you say, "When she tries to open a link on the internet or in an e-mail it doesn't work" you mean, she do click in the link and:

- Nothing happens
- Error Message
- Internet Explorer Crash
- Other (and tell us what happen when she do click in a link)

Now;

did you tried with other navigator, Mozilla/Chrome/Opera?

What version of Internet explorer are using 6/7/8?
Do you know how to check the version of IE?
