    Hello Guys,

This is the second time I am posting this question. When I click on view availbale networks, it does not show me any networks in range. I have tried the windows wireless zero configuration however , it has not helped.

IS there a program i can use to view and connects to the wireless networks ??

    regards.

Yup I forgot to mention. 1. its win XP professional

    2. The network adaptor is turned on and I am using HP 8710p laptop. I do not have wireless router at the moment but the problem is that there are other networks available in the vicinity. Problem is I cant view them. I can easily see about 4 networks when I see use my iphone. The computer prompts me there are wireless networks in the vicinity however when I click on the 'Refresh network list' or 'View available networks' I cant see anything ..it says 'No wireless networks were found in the range' which is strange.

Also when I did have a wireless router about 3 weeks ago, the internet would work fine (because I had saved the password before the problem started) however I still cud not see even my own network.
    3. I am sure windows is controlling the wireless setting. if there is a way around it I wud like to try it.

Also a quick update. I downloaded net stumbler today and it shows all the networks available around me so the computer can detect the networks. But I just can view them or connect.

Looking at this support link - http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...9264&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=1093#11395 - you have several different possibilities for wireless connection drivers and software that would have come with the comp.
Can you see if you have the Intel PROSet for Intel PRO/Wireless Network Connection or the HP Wireless Assistant or the Broadcom Wireless Utility in your program listings?
If any of these are running at the same time as the Windows wireless application, they may cause the problem you are having. If so, you need to decide which utility you are going to use and either delete the other or stop the service from running.

If you want to use the Windows app follow these directions -

    1. Click Start > Control Panel. From the Category View, click Performance and Maintenance.
    2. Next, click Administrative Tools (if you're using the Control Panel's Classic View, this will be your first step).
    3. From Administrative Tools, click Services.
    4. Once in Services, scroll to the bottom of the page; click Wireless Zero Configuration.
    5. On the window that appears, make sure the Startup Type is Automatic and that the Service Status is Started.

Check to see if the service for which ever other wireless connection app you have is Disabled in Start up Type. (Same directions as above except the software service is the other one you have installed.)
Or alternatively you can remove the software by going to Add/Remove Programs.

If you want to use the other connection app, just make sure the Windows service is set to Disabled in Start up Type using the same directions as above.

    Hi Mate,

Thanks for your reply. I have checked and I have Intel Pro installed not HP wireless assistant. Also I have configured windows wireless zero configuration and its set to automatic and started. I had checked that earlier (2-3weeks) as well but it did not solve the problem.

I ,until yesterday, did not have any other wireless connections manager but installed Avanquest connections manager only last night. when I use Avanquest I can see all the networks perfectly. So I aasume the network hardware is working properly too. The windows wireless network connetion pops a message saying that there are wireless connections around but its just that when I click on it and try to refresh the network list it nothing comes up.

If you have the Intel Proset installed but are not using it, it can still cause problems. If you want to use the Windows app, uninstall all other apps.
