can't write to PC CD from laptop wireless

PC is connected to router. Laptop is connected by wireless card. Can write to floppy on PC from laptop. Cannot write to CD on PC from Laptop. Says not available. Could this be due to laptop never having a writeable CD drive and not having any CD writing wizard? What's going on? Thanks in advance.

youre not going to be able to burn cds with a drive that isnt a cd-r drive.

 

Not sure I understand. The CD drive is on the PC, and I can write to it from the PC, with no problem. I have Nero on the PC, but do not use it; never open it. Writing appears to be by using the Microsoft Wizard software to write CDs. are you saying that the laptop can't write because it doesn't have a drive in IT? or that the laptop can't write to the PC CD because the PC CD isn't a cd-r?
We have enabled the PC CD drive to be accessed and changed by the laptop on the network. It just won't write the files to the disk.

 

The only way you can write across the network to a CD burner in Windows XP is if packet writing is installed on the machine with the burner. Then you share the drive out.

 

Because of speed and caching considerations Burning programs do not work through the Network.

You can use a remote control program (like UltraVNC) to run remotely the computer with the burner and Burn as much as you like.

 

Packet writing software does work. I've used it over a network.

 

I guess I am not literate enough to understand and take action to fix my problem. I think you say with packet writing and marking the CD drive Shared, it can be written to from the laptop. So, where does packet writing come from? Is it on the WinXP CD? How do I determine if it is already on my PC? If there is another forum for less literate folks let me know. I'm here because I've looked for solutions on various boards and forums and can't find one. Maybe you responders can give responses which I can take action on. Thanks. The frustration is building.

 

May be you want to explain what it is that you want to Burn? Packet writing is Not a solution for all type of CD burning.

It is hard find a place that explains how to burn through a network because it is Not a common practice.

we want to use my cd across the network, from my wife's laptop, to create backup for her files of all types. Photos, excel, word, saved email, anything she has that is valuable and important enough to backup. She has no floppy on her machine, no writeable DVD/CD of any type. At the present, all we can do for backup is write to floppys across the network to my floppy drive on my PC. We can plug my Palm 515 into her usb port and write to a 256mb memory card, then unplug and plug into my usb and transfer to whatever is on my machine. Very slow process but a last resort as of now.
Her laptop is 5 yrs old, Dell, very slow, and we do not want to invest in adding/replacing the drive to get a writeable drive.

 

Get this program it would let you choose a saving spot through the Network.

So back the files to the Computer with the CDR and do with them whatever you want to do.
