So I'm in NY this weekend and have a great time with my girlfriend and our daughters.

We go to see a Broadway show ('Wicked'...awesome if anyone is interested), and head back to our hotel. We are staying in Manhattan just across from Central park. I take pictures out our window. It was a great view. We get ready, catch a cab around 6:45 pm to head downtown to the Village to have dinner.

Had a great dinner at an Italian place, go back to the hotel where the girls get a movie and my friend and I both go to bed. I wake up this morning and text my husband who is taking our youngest to a dance competition (LOL) and he calls me and asks if we are going to be able to get out of the city with the Bomb and everything.

    Ummmmm...huh? A bomb? What bomb?

SO, we go out to dinner and do not hear one word about the fact that there was a car bomb that they had to evacuate Times Square for! Wtf? How can people not be talking about that at the restaurant? lol

Anyway, I could not imagine that in any other city, it wouldn't be what everyone was talking about.

I was just reading about that. Thank goodness for the vendor who recognized it to be something dangerous. Could have been a disaster. Goes to show everyone has to be mindful of everything around these days.

How close were you to all that Laura?

People are very aware in NY, so yep, thank god for the guy who did report it.

We weren't close really. We were earlier since we were seeing a show. That night though we were downtown in the Village (around 12th street), the car bomb was on 45th. It was just weird that the waitstaff at the restaurant weren't talking about it or anything.

Apparently people staying in hotels around Times Square couldn't get back into their rooms. That would be horrible.

Glad you are safe and that no-one in NY was killed by this, you are correct, with quick thinking members of the public and police, what could have been a serious incident was averted. I gather from what I've been reading in the news is that, some are thinking this could have been a bit of retribution for a SouthPark episode that had angered some, as the Viacom offices where by where the car was stopped, but who knows.

I'm not sure they know what the reasoning was. Apparently the bomb was pretty crude. They are looking for a middle aged white man that they saw on surveillance cameras.

The ONLY encouraging thing about this incident is that, after training in Pakistan for 5 months, the terrorist would be bomber used the wrong fertilizer in his contraption!
This makes 2 would be bombers in a row in this country that couldn't get it right. I heard a commentator on TV this morning that car bombs and such go off everyday in different parts of the world. Maybe, just maybe, our homeland security IS working to the point what with the no enter lists and all that the only ones they can get across the border are the totally inexperienced, and inept, bottom of the barrel.
But that could well be wishful thinking I know. Maybe we just got lucky a couple of times in a row. :wave:wave:wave

I'm sure he was in a rush, didn't open the valves on the propane tanks either.
Lucky is right, luck runs out sooner or later. :(

Yup, they learn from their mistakes. I'm sure that CNN International is being watched very closely for any and all info they can gather over there.

On a lighter note, ain't it cool to have been able to grab the sucker on the plane just before it leaves for Dubai/Islamabad? There's a movie waiting to be made! Famous last words: 'Aww s**t'.roflmao

Yea, they weren't waiting to see if he had any accomplices/acquaintances on board. That must have been some high drama, too bad he didn't try making a break for it, he would have in a movie. :wave

Where the bomb was at was right across the street from the Lion King Theater where I was back in October.

And the fact that no one was talking about it shows the NYC frankly has not learned it's lesson.
