car usb drive

a car steering wheel has a button for the CD player that usually changed the song one forward

I have a mp3 player and when I hook it up to my car stereo that function no longer works and that is THE BEST PART ABOUT HAVING A CD PLAYER in the car, the easy change of songs

so how do I get a mp3 player to be so easily controlled in the car?

I suspect I am going to have to get a new stereo for my car..any suggestions about what to get or what to do? Im tired of burning CDs

I dont know for sure but I am going to say that you cant. It sounds like the kit you have simply passes audio over usb. While it is possible to control some external MP3 players with the car head unit you need to have a compatable head unit and player. ie Your head unit must support an ipod (or whatever player you have). What you are asking is like asking to plug a Creative Zen into an Ipod dock and expect it to work.

The other issue you may have is to do with button mappings. My parents have an Ipod connecter in their car and the button that you press on the head unit to skip a track on the MP3 is different to the button to skip a track on a CD... Thus your stering wheel controls still wont work.

In short if it doesn't work now I dont think it will do. Sorry

I was thinking I likely need a new stereo that is MP3 compatible, as cds are on the way out
does anyone have a suggestion, or should I make a new thread for that
