cardbus v express card

Hiya

I was wanting to know what is the difference between cardbus and express card slots in terms of how they look. Do they have the same physical appearance on the laptop, or are there distinguishing marks/logos/slot sizes to tell them apart.

I was thinking more in terms of the slots on the laptop itself, do they look different than ordinary cardbus slots?

 

I would have thought so, looking at the picture, the express card port would be smaller, judging by the picture about 35mm compared to the cardbus at about 55mm.

 

There are 2 types of express cards, 34mm and 54mm. The 34mm slots accomodate only 34mm cards, but the 54mm accomodate both 34mm and 54mm.

if you go here http://www.expresscard.org and also look at http://www.expresscard.org/photos/expresscard-cardbus-hi.jpg you will see that the 54mm cards when inserted look just like cardbus cards. The only difference I can see is that the ejector button is missing.

 

That's bloody awkward!
How hard would it have been to include some form of symbol next to the drive, the same way we can differentiate between CD drives and DVD drives.
