Hey all...one of my co-workers is being deployed to Iraq soon and some of us are putting together a care package for him to take along. (We are also going to send him a package at Christmas time.)

What I was wondering is, do any of you have any ideas of what we could include in the care package? So far we have thought of: baggies (keep the dust off stuff), lip balm, phone cards, playing cards, puzzle books. Any other ideas???

    Thanks for your suggestions!

    G.T. R.I.P February 4, 2007. You will be missed.

The stuff you mention is all good, plus deoderant, toothpaste, almost anything. Small, light candies or specialty foods that travel well and don't melt in the heat. Something that will read E-books, and some E-books books that he'd like would be killer. Small, portable, long-term entertainment, and more books downloadable even when he's over there.

Recommendation: For going away give hime a few small light things, but he'll be carrying as much as he's able with him already; they've got limits on how much they can carry. Ship your care package to him as soon as he gets where he's going. That will do him more good, and will be MUCH appreciated once he's already over there.

Flea and tick collars. Placed around the ankles, they repel sand fleas, and other critters.

Isaac used to ask us for disposable cameras (the sand easily gets into nicer cameras and they're ruined) and also for chewing gum.

Maybe a regular shipment of letters from well wishes. They may not be of any material value but it is good for the moral for him and anyone stationed with him.

One more thing, let him know that some people here at MG appreciate his service.

I think everyone here, no matter how they feel about this 'war', appreciate what the men and women (both civilians and soldiers) are doing over there :)
