my wife has power point in her new computer ( windows 7 64 bit) Just about every time she wants to use power point an error message comes up saying that msvcr 80 dll is missing. She has to uninstall pp and reinstall, then it will work, until next time, when she has to go through the same routine again. Any ideas?

    Hi

What version of Office are you using and is it fully up to date?

As that dll is in the Visual C Runtime pack, install it and see if it fixes this

That didn't work. She doesn't have office in her computer. I don't have it in mine either but power point works for me so must be it is carried in on something else.

Go to DLL-Files.Com, download msvcr80.dll and place it in C:\Windows\system(\system64 or whatever it's called for Windows7 64bit).

Okay we have done that and now she no longer gets the message that the dll is missing but the program will not work without uninstalling/reinstalling. Then it works for that one time. Thanks very much for your help. At least the dll is in there.

    Hi

Try this and re-register that dll as in many cases they need to be registered with the system.

To do this in Win7 you'll likely have to open an elevated command prompt (click Start type cmd into the Start Search box and when CMD shows in the list right click it and choose Run as Administrator) then type in the command box,

    regsvr32 msvcr80.dll *note the space between 2 and m*

and hit enter and you should get a sucessful message. (you may need to have the full path of the files location so would be regsvr32 c:\Windows\system\msvcr80.dll or C:\Windows\SysWOW64\msvcr80.dll as examples as you may have placed it in different location)

What application do you have that opens these Powerpoints if you both dont have Office installed?

Is it Open Office or the Powerpoint viewer? if the Powerpoint Viewer then grab the lastest version HERE but install it by right clicking the exe and choosing Run as Administrator, or grab the latest version of Open Office (free) HERE
