I don't know if I am in the right department or not but here is my problem: in the past I would set up my magnovox boonbox cassette player to my desktop and use nero wizard to listen to the cassette and tranfer it to digital cd. I would connect the appropriate cable from the earphone outlet into the desktop. Now when I try to do it with my Pavilion laptop I cannot hear the cassette. I was told on purchase I would not have any problem with this. I cannot hear the cassette when I try to transfer it to the computer. please advise. I am using window 7 and nero 10, and a magnavox boonbox. Thank you in advance for any help.

When I purchased this laptop I was told it has a sound card and line in so I could continue to "cassetter to cd". At this point I don't know what could be my problem. I contacted HP and the tech said it maybe the boonbox working with windows 7 or it maybe nero working with windows7. I was under the impression that windows 7 was making things easier to do. Now I don't know what to do. Do I need to look into buying a sound card if I already have one?

    :confused

All laptops have a sound card chipset built into the motherboard. The line-in is the microphone line-in, not the same for audio recording through devices like soundboards, cassette players, and the such. This is why you would need to buy something like the Behringer. As for the playback from cassette, if you can get it as a mp3 file, I would do that. Unless you have a high quality studio type cassette player, the playback on a consumer grade will be really bad. And if you are able to even clean up the noise and hiss from the capture, you are going to loose a lot in the transfer.

It takes a lot of work to master a old recording off of a cassette, that you may realize that it can take hours to get something decent for just you to have. Keep in mind, that doing this, does not mean that you can sell or place online the recordings, unless you have been authorized by the original artist.

no I don't sell my cd's I just put them on cd for my husband. The cassettes are so old now they break as he is playing them. Thank you for you help.
