Catalyst problem...(screenshot)

My friend just got a new computer: DFI Lanparty nF4 Ultra-D with an ATI Radeon X850xt. The problem is when I installed Catalyst we noticed some problems. The windows video driver worked fine (except for the fact that he was pretty much stuck with 800x600 resolution).

Note the small boxes missing in all the icons on the start menu and desktop. It also happens in games like Half-Life 2 and it gets even worse sometimes. Anybody ever see anything like this? I am at a loss. I've tried reinstalling Catalyst, using different versions of it, nothing seems to work.

So if anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

 

I had a very similar problem and figured it was a driver issue. I found out that I had mixed graphics drivers without realizing it. I got the HP pack and Hydravision on it's own from the ATI site. I redownloaded the HP graphics pack and then deleted my ATI drivers and reinstalled the hp pack.

No problems so far, though it's only been a little while.

 

the screenshot doesnt show!....so its hard to say whats wrong but it might also be a graphics memory issue... have u tried scanning for artifacts using ati tool?
