catologing why is this the only option

    i am run whereisit the latest ver. i am new to this software and the only option i see to doing the catologing is that it will only catolog something that is already on a disc. but why cannt i catolog folders and such on my c/d/or e drive fist then put them on disc. because it seems that i have to put it on disc first then catolog them . it all seems a waste of time doing it this way :)
