Caught in a Norton Protection Center loop

My Norton Protection Center keeps flagging "Urgent Attention: 1 item is affecting your status." I have updated five or six times, but the NPC keeps telling me that there is one item that needs attention, and it goes right back to Live Update.

After four or five times of this, I got the most recent SpyBot Search and Destroy 1.5 and ran it. Found lots of junk and fixed them all.

Then I did the Live Update again, but the NPC still says there is a problem.

    Any ideas?

When you open up the Protectin Centre, is it not requesting a full scan?

I did a complete scan the day before yesterday. Immediatley following the scan, I got the same message. I think the problem is due to Nortons not downloading the new virus definintions or possibly some hidden trojan that will not allow the definitions to mount.

I had a similar problem with my boss's computer. It was new and he let his grandkids play on the Internet. Then he gave me some new software to load on it, and it was really freaking out for a brand new computer right out of the box. We bought virus protection, but it would not load. It would go to the same screen and stall.

I got on line with it and was able to run a scan on McAffees free scan site. It listed the virus, but I was unable to download the removal tool. Smart virus. I used my computer to download it and placed it on a jump drive. Removed the virus, loaded Nortons, and never had a problem with it again. I also told him to keep his grand kids on one of the older computers, which he did!

Now it looks like it's my turn. My computer boots OK and operates great, I just keep getting warnings that my virus protection is out of date.

    Thanks,

    Daniel

    Steve,

My computer was set for Dec. 6 and the time has not updated properly since the time change to Eastern Standard Time. However, Live Update is still being a pill.

I will keep looking into what is going on.

    Thanks,

    Dan

Are you able to right click the clock and adjust the time and date?
