When I try to open CCleaner... to follow the basic good house keeping procedure, I get the following in a tiny box that has CCleaner on the header:

    CCleaner error lang-1033.dll not found

    What now?

It may be necessary to register CCleaner's DLL files.

Enter each of the below from a command prompt window. You open a command prompt window by clicking Start->Run, and enter cmd and click OK.

    regsvr32 C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCHelper.ocx
    regsvr32 C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCleaner.dll
    regsvr32 C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCListBar.ocx
    regsvr32 C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCListView.ocx
    regsvr32 C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCSubTimer.dll
    regsvr32 C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCSystem.dll
    regsvr32 C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCTab.ocx
    regsvr32 C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCTreeView.ocx
    regsvr32 C:\Program Files\CCleaner\lang-1033.dll

The above assumes you installed CCleaner into the default recommended installation folder.

I typed in the first one and it failed, I CAREFULLY copy/pasted the others so as not to include extra or exclude parts... all with the same result.

LoadLibrary ("C:\Program") failed - The specified module could not be found.

I navigated to the location, C:\Program Files\CCleaner and all of the files are there. Also there: ccleaner.exe, uninst.exe, a history file and three ini's (winapp.ini, winreg.ini, winsys.ini.)

Try the below (I added quotes around the full filename path):

    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCHelper.ocx"
    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCleaner.dll"
    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCListBar.ocx"
    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCListView.ocx"
    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCSubTimer.dll"
    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCSystem.dll"
    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCTab.ocx"
    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCTreeView.ocx"
    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\CCleaner\lang-1033.dll"

Note: That this may not fix your problem and it should not even be necessary if the install for CCleaner worked properly. If it does not work, I would suggest uninstalling Ccleaner and rebooting. After reboot, shutdown ALL applications and browers and then try to install Ccleaner again.

Okay, moving on to the next issue...

All but two of them said: DllRegisterServer in "path name" succeeded.

CCleaner.dll and lang-1033.dll returned this result:

C:\Program Files\CCleaner\"file name" was Loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. This file can not be registered.

Still want me to dump, boot, strip and reload? Or is what it gave me close enough?

Yes try the reinstall. If that does not work and if your only reason for running CCleaner is to complete the steps in the READ & RUN ME then use the below procedure instead of CCleaner.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program does not require an installation. The executable actually runs the program.

NOTE: This program is for Windows XP and Windows 2000 only. ATF Cleaner will remove all files from the items that are checked so if you have some cookies you'd like to save. Please move them to a different directory first.
    • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    • Under Main choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
    If you use Firefox browser
    • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
    If you use Opera browser
    • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main ATF Cleaner menu to close the program.

    Okay, I'm on it!

Thanks for going 6 rounds with me and CCleaner, Chaslang.

I will hopefully move on to the next steps without further assistance needed.

You're welcome. If you still have malware problems after finishing the READ & RUN ME, attach the 6 requested logs here along with an explanation of your problems. However remember what I said in your other thread about those HP programs not being malware.

No scan logs for CounterSpy or Panda!

I am having issues here folks. lol

I ran (in order, as per Malware Removal Guide) the programs, got to Counter Spy... at no point and in no location did it give me the option to View -> Spyware Scan -> View Spyware Scan History... nor anything like it.
I right clicked on everything I could find, I left clicked on everything I could find, I clicked all buttons... nothing even remotely like those options was presented to me.
What was offered was to Ignore or Remove the one thing it did find... the remnants of Weather Bug, a low risk spyware. I chose to Remove it.

BitDefender ran fine in Safe w/Networking, I have the txt.

Moving on to the next issuse.

As per instructions, "Since so many people have problems running this scan in Safe Boot Mode, we have decided that this online scan should be run in Normal Boot Mode. Thus, if you are in safe node, reboot into normal mode now." I rebooted into Normal Mode... only to have PandaActiveScan lock up on me three times. I booted back into safe mode w/networking and the scanner worked, however I could not see the full pop-window, and no matter what I tried, I could not enlarge the window to see it's full contents, could not move the contents to allow me to view the obscured portions.
So if the option to See Report had been anywhere on that pop-up, I could not see it... I was not expecting it to be, since the instructions said to close the pop-up, then click See Report.
The words "See Report" were nowhere on the remaining page. So after four hours (2 and a half for CounterSpy, 1 and a half for Panda) I am reportless.
The only thing I can provide is that Panda said it found infections... Kill_Ap, I think... that may have come from BitDefender... if so, you will see it in the txt.

Now what? Do I keep going and move on to GetRunKey and ShowNew?

Attached is the bdscan.txt... don't know if ya want it or not yet, but here it is for your veiwing pleasure. lol

Re: No scan logs for CounterSpy or Panda!

Did you already exceed your 15 day trial period for CounterSpy?

See the tips for getting a CounterSpy log in the below thread. See messages 5 thru 8:

    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=111581

Yes you need to keep on going thru ALL steps now.

What malware problems are you actually having?

Also please stay in one thread while trying to work thru your current malware problems. I'm merging you back to your other thread started on 3/27

No, have not exceeded trial period, loaded CounterSpy for the first time last night.

CounterSpy... the windows I got looked almost nothing like the screencaps. I did not have the File, View, Help, nor any of the buttons below it. And my options for after the scan had finished, in the way of buttons, were Scan (to scan Again) Review (I think... geez, I slept since then) and Exit (quit program.)
I chose Review (or whatever it was) and it showed me WeatherBug, and only gave me the option to Ignore it or Remove it, it was not in a new window, it showed it to me in the main window, not a summary pop up.
No additional windows ever opened during the course of the entire proceedure.

I did not know I was having Malware problems until someone told me to post here about a blank entry I got using a program called Starter.
But since I have started the Malware Removal Guide proceedures, all kinds of stuff has popped up. lol
One scan said I had hacker tools on my comp, one said a virus called Kill Ap, or something like that, another only picked up on what remained of WeatherBug after I had kicked it off of my comp.

Okay, moving on to GetRunKey and ShowNew!

    Thanks Chaslang!

Okay! Just ignore CounterSpy and continue.

I'm not sure what you are referring to. A blank entry where.

You will have to post logs that show remaining problems. You have not shown any real problems yet. And what you were probably referring to with "Kill Ap" is probably not the correct message and it was more than likely Panda that reported this and it is probably a false positive due to something related the HP files. Do you have an HP PC or printer/scanner/camera..etc?

lol At this point Chaslang, I have no idea what I am talking about anymore. lol
Starter is a program that shows all startup items, processes and services. I had a blank entry in the Startup list.

Yes, my PC is an HP Pavilion 734n. (Not sure if this is related, but... I dumped all of HP's extra junk, except for certain items, I kept their printer drivers, just incase, but got rid of their scanner/camera BS.)

Here are my logs... as mentioned before, Panda Scan is still missing, but I kept trying CounterSpy... what-a-ya-know, one time it actually opened up with all the right buttons and stuff, I was so excited I giggled, so I ran it before it could change it's mind.

    Thanks again for everything!

You still don't show any malware, but here are a few minor things to do.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11

Also uninstall the Sunbelt CounterSpy trial since we are finished with it now! Then delete the below two folders which may be left behind by the uninstall:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sunbelt Software
    C:\Program Files\Sunbelt Software

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = localhost
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {3C060EA2-E6A9-4E49-A530-D4657B8C449A} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {56071E0D-C61B-11D3-B41C-00E02927A304} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0\bin\jusched.exe"

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

If you are still having any problems with malware at this point, you will have to describe it a more detail.

    Okay, done.

Sorry if this was a waste of time, Chaslang. Just had me worried when three scans returned positive results.

Glad to know I am in the clear though.

I am still trying to figure out why that old Java was still in my Add/Remove list, lol. Oh well, wouldn't be the first time I have "removed" a progam only to find it still happily residing on my comp.

Thanks again for all of your efforts and help, Chaslang! Cheers!

    You're welcome.

It is time to do our final steps:
    1. You can delete the ShowNew.Zip and GetRunkey.Zip files and the files that you extracted from the ZIP files. You can also delete the C:\newfiles.txt and C:\runkeys.txt logs that were created
    2. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    3. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Okay, done.

Sorry took so long to get back to you, had other problems arise. Thankfully wasn't with my computer. lol Husband had emergency update and configuration issues on his, so I had to devote my time to his machine.

Thanks again Chaslang! This has been... uh... fun? lol Informative! There, that's a better word.
