Running XPsp3. Every day or so CClenaer finds a registry item that after fixing returns on occasion, maybe related to web surfing. I've looked up vpatch.exe in Process Library and know it's rather benign, but the reference to it is C:\Windows\Temp\ivr_2_temp\vpatch.exe, something like that. It also relates to CCleaner cleaning the MUI cache. I can't exclude it from CCleaner's scan, so what might I do to nix this temp executable for good? The item never actually appears in C:\Windows\Temp. Haven't been able to isolate what software I run that vpatch.exe might relate to. Thanks in advance.

Hi Tritonobx if its not harming anything don't worry bout it, or as the saying goes " if it aint broke don't fix it " :)

vpatch.exe always show up, for each scan?

Try to go directly to c:\windows\temp\ivr_2_temp from the "RUN" box.

It may be hidden through other means. Or do it with the "DOS" box.

No, the CCleaner scan only occasionally finds the file, that's why I think it may have to do with IE browser activity. I unhid system files as well and looked again in C\Windows\Temp, the only thing that ever appears there is a .dat file. Once CCleaner finds it, I can confirm it's registry location at HKLM\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ShellNoRoam\MUIcache. I can delete it there or allow CCleaner to fix it. CCleaner finds it about every day or two. I open YouTube quite a bit and wonder if it's an embedded security check or process. Also the files parent application as indicated in Process Library never appears in C\Program Files either. There you have it.

Correction. The aforementioned registry location originates with HKCU not HKLM.

One other thought is RealPlayer (I believe the paid version) has a proprietary file type of IVR (Internet Video Recording). Do you use RealPlayer or go to sites that might have embedded real player videos?

What an odd place to put a file. The temporary folder location? I typically hard dump that folder all the time.

Thanks to all who responded. Indeed I do use Real Player and download videos quite frequently, so this appears to identify the parent software. Using their downloader records videos as .flv files mostly, and ivr is obviously internet video recording. Does that make this scan object in CCleaner not killable, and expected to appear in the scan after every incident of recording web vids via Real Player?
