ccleaner won't work?

I tried all of the steps in the READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT
I was unable to run ccleaner everything else ran. It installs but I am unable to get it to run. When I click on the .exe file for it in my folder it only installs again. I was also unable to connect to the internet in the safe mode. (I'm running XP). So I couldn't do the online scan at trend or symantec in the safe mode. I got rid of a lot of stuff with the downloads but my computer seems to running the same for the most part. The reason I started all of this was to install a file I need. I got a "unable to find the shell.dll message and I was unable to execute the file. I there's an easy fix for that I would appreciate that too. You guys are good. Also I'm a technoidiot so use baby steps if you can.

I just wanted to add that when went to the safemode I did choose the option with network support, it just won't work

I have a feeling that JPB may be running the installation program each time rather then running the application itself after the install.

JPB,
If you installed it and left defaults there should be a Desktop icon you can double click on to run CCleaner. You can also run it from Start, All Programs and locate it and run it. You must be clicking in the installation file.
