I am running Windows XP SP2 with Mcafee Security Center which has Firewall, Antivirus, Popup/Add/&Web Bug blockers in its Privacy Service.

Want to know if anyone has had any problems with CCleaner causing issues on their computer after running a complete "clean" and/or "fixing" all the issues it comes up with in the registry. Any infor would be helpful.

In my experience registry cleaners (including CCleaner)*often* cause problems -which is why they most often have a back-up utility -so you can restore any changes you've made.
***that's not to say that you shouldn't clean your registry using this type of software***
If you are unsure how to back-up the registry you could read this: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=322756
As I mentioned most programs that clean the registry automatically create a back-up -if you're unsure do it manually via the link above.
As long as you have a back-up you should be ok, and, again, it *is* worth it to clean the registry every so often -especially if you've never done it or you install/uninstall proggies regularly.
    Hope this helped :)

I run CCleaner after every web browsing session,no problems. If you use the default settings, its "Clean" function doesn't touch anything that could cause trouble. If you select a setting that could cause damage,it gives you a warning. The "Issues" function (which cleans the registry) always asks if you want to make a back up when you click "Fix".I click "yes",then I use the date as the name of the backup folder. If there's no problems created, after a week or so I delete them.CCleaner is not primarily a registry cleaner, if your registry really needs cleaning,a more powerful program is called for. They're not for inexperienced users, however.

Thanks guys for your responses. I would not consider myself an advanced user. So say I only use CCleaner to clean up my tmep files, etc. and leave the issues section (by the way when scanned finds about 100 issues) which scans and fixes the registry alone. Using the moto "if it aint broke don't fix it". Is it safe to use just the cleaner function in CCleaner rather than my repeated use of Disk Cleanup in windows? Can I use the cleanup function in CCleaner Daily or is this not a good idea? Thanks for any furhter infol

  5. Alright, now that were on the issue, I tried scanning for issues last night and ran into a problem. Once the scan is complet I select all and click fix, then CCleaner asks if I want to backup the fix, I select yes then all of a sudden I get an error message. Something like "07 memory" and all is frozen, Ctrl. Alt. Del. does nothing, so I have to reboot. I took a quick look in the FAQ section of CCleaner but didn't come across anything. I'll try it again tonight and keep you guys posted. ;)

P.S. Both other scans work fine.

  6. Hum? Just did a scan and everything ran smoothly. Go figure
