robertbiferi I can't follow the rules

I have win 7. and a DL DVD burner.

I know I can copy files to the Drive and Burn them I meen Data Files.

But all my Files are like 2. GB is there a way to have win 7. span the files across a lot of DVDs?

What I meen is I don't want to have to copy just 2. files at a time and put another DVD in and do it again.

Can't I copy all my files to the drive and somehow have win 7. just keep asking me to put another DVD in to have it keep coping the files??

OK so I know it is a Loss Less compression but one more thing?

I want to use it on my Files I have made like all my VOB Movies I have that are 2. GB eatch.

So when I do this I will pick to Backup to my DVD Drive.

So when I put a Blank DVD in and start this will it ask me for another Disk when it fills the first one up?

I have like 20 VOB files and every file is 2. GB eatch.

So does it just make one File out of all of them or will it SPAN them over so many Disks??

It will span them but I do not believe you will want to use Window 7's backup program. I do not use it but I do use the image backup that Windows 7 provides. I did some reading and it seems that even though it will span DVD's, if a file is larger than 200MB, it will split the file into multiple zip files of 200MB each. Something that would not be very good on 20 VOB files at 2GB each. Somebody here on the board should be able to suggest a backup program that will split in larger segments and span DVD's. For that large of a backup, I would recommend an external drive though. Backing up to DVD's is not as reliable as backing up to a hard drive.

I am so so so sorry I think I did not ask what I need help with in the right way.

I have a lot of VOB files and every VOB file is 2. GB eatch.

I have around 20 of them and I know I can put a Blank DVD in my DVD Burner and Burn just 2. files at a time.

But every time one DVD is Burned I have to take it out and put another blank DVD in and copy 2. new files to that DVD.

And I will have to this over and over and over.

Will win 7. Backup let me just copy all 20 of my files to the DVD Drive and let win 7. Burn it and just ask me to insert a new DVD every time it is full?

I never did that with Windows 7. You might want to highlight all the files and drag them over to the DVD drive. Then burn and see if it will ask you for another disk.

I came across this. It seems CDBurnerXP can span disks. So you would highlight all of the files, then tell it to split to a certain size. It will automatically ask for the next disk. Seems like it is just what you need.

Yes it does. This was on their FAQ page.

    Operating Systems: Windows 2000/XP/2003 Server/Vista/2008/Win7 (x86 / x64)

Edit: It needs .NET to run but that is already included with Windows 7.

Thank you for the help but how do I get into the setting for making it Span Disks?

You say you just set how big you want eatch Disk to be or file and this will make it Span Disks?

You cannot split large files within the program, you need 7-Zip also. CDBurnerXP's Help (F1) explains splitting the splitting process step-by-step so how about a little self help here?

EDIT - I just tested the splitting process. It is very slow and won't be practical for you if you have several 2GB files to split. We need a different solution.

I know you can not Slipt a large file I was just taling about having it just take 2. of my files that are 2. GB eatch and just putting 2. of them on eatch Disk.

It would be 2. GB on every Disk this is what I ment?

tgell suggested you just select the files to be copied and see what happens. Have you tried that? He also suggested that backing up such a large volume you would be better using an external drive, and I fully endorse that.

I use CDBurnerXP myself in Win 7 x64, and although it is a good program I can't see it's going to help you with this task.

I am sorry I think it is still me and the way I am asking.

I do not have one big file and I don't want it to split a big file.

I have a lot of 2. GB files and I know 2. GB will fit on one Blank DVD.

And I know I can just keep Coping these 2. GB files on DVDs one by one and I just have to keep taking out the DVD and putting in a new DVD.

And I did this before by hand one by one.

I just ment in CDBurnXP can I tell it to make eatch Disk backup 2. GB?
I thought there is a setting?
