I download to my PC the audio and then burn either in WMP and a couple in Nero 8. When I play the burned CD towards the end of the CD the audio chatters, skips or cuts off before the finish. I have enough time left before the 80 minutes are done. At time up to 30 or 40 minutes. I don't know where to even begin except that when I play the original all the audio is there. Do you have any suggestions for me as to how I can correct this? Please advise and thank you in advance for any assistance.

Okay just to make sure I have this part correct. you are burning cd with the Nero 8 or WMP? The second question have you done a test burning on nero? Another question I have does the skipping or chatter happen on just any particular song? Then my last question is what is the spped your burning the songs at?

I don't know if this makes a differnces since I don't have DVD writer, are you burning them there or a cd writer? I don't think it should but I'm just like everyone else still learning.

    also
what media are you using (brand and spec of disks)
what interface is the external burner (usb 1/2.0, firewire, Esata)

And are you doing anything else besides burning while the disks are being made (heavy CPU usage can mess with USB)

I burned on both WMP and Nero8. Not sure what a test burn in Nero 8? The skipping and chattering happens towards the end of the burn. I am burning audio talks. The burner is an external Samsung WriteMaster. Burns CDs and DVDs.

    Thank you,

I am using memorex CD-R recordable 52X, 700 MB, 80min,and Sony CD-R compact disc Supremas 700 MB.

have you listened to the audio talks on your computer before burning it? could be an issue with the file itself. if the file plays fine on the computer try setting the burn speed to slow and don't use the computer while it burns the disc. perhaps try playing the cd on different players as well to see if it is the disc or drive that might be dirty? good luck

This isn't what we're looking for... what speed are you burning the discs: 52x? 48x? 32x? I have found with burning any type of multimedia files (music, videos, movies, etc), I get the best results when burning at 16x or below for CDs; when burning DVD movies, I use 4x, and AVI movies on DVDs are burned at 8x. With music CDs especially, I've noticed major drops in quality when they're burned at higher speeds.

Thank you for the suggestions. I will get a cleaner to make sure the burner is not dirty. How do I see what is running at the same time as burning? I tried going into the Window Task Manager under Applications and Processes but if I try to remove a Process I receive a warning "Termination can cause undesired results including Loss of data and system stability." Any advise???

    Thank you,

okay why are you trying remove or stop a process during a burn of a cd? I'm guessing you trying to look for active processes there.

I think what is meant by
paradoxdream asked Are you doing anything else, when burning a cd..

Means are you running any programs besides the one that normally run in the background?

dlb was correct in how he mentioned speed format. Thanks for that dlb.

I would take Primo advice and check the audio file first, then work towards the burning aspect of it.

last thing here how do you connect your external Samsung WriteMaster to you computer? Does it look something like the attached picture

Yes the burner is connected with a USB 2 port in the computer. I do hear the computer working when I am not doing anything so I am assuming programs are running in the background. My question was how do I know what is running and how would I stop programs from running without messing the computer up? Is there any advise you could give me? Thank you,

    yes this is correct.
For example are you watching a movie , playing a game , Surfing the net or listening to music ETC... While your tring to burn the CD

The suggestions of listing to the track and lowering the speed are excellent ideas (some disks don't burn well at higher speed no matter what the manufacture says)

with all the suggestion in this thread you should be able to diagnose the problem and or fix it

    1. listen to the track on your PC to make sure its good
    2. Close all windows and open NERO/ or WMP
    3. open task manager and look at cpu usage (CTRL+ALT+DEL then performance tab)
    4. if CPU usage is not jacked go to step 5
    5. Do a test burn (if passes go to 6)
    6. burn the CD at a low speed with Verifying data check box checked
    7. Enjoy you CD
