CD Burner failing...

I have an optopwrite CD-RW model CW5205 that used to work fine as hell....
but know it just starts failing it doesn't reads, doesn't burns.

I check the drive and windows says its ok and has the latest firmware...

What can be wrong... could it be the hardware???
What can I do???

Bit more info would help.. any noises ?? whats the activity light doing etc.

 

The noise its just the same at it did when it was good, and about the light... when I insert a disc and doesn't recognized it, the green ligh flashes for a while and then it stays on all the time...

What is your operating system?

Is the drive listed in My Computer and Device Manager with no errors?

 

usually abnormal light flashing on a CD drive indicates that the drive has gone bad ... you might want to give their tech suppport as call to see what it means, as it is not posted on their website

 

Hi again ... heres a little trick that has resolved this prob for me in the past, assuming you have 2 Roms.. Go into 'Device Manager' and uninstall both of them, then, Whatever jumper settings they are set at, reverse them, (Of course making sure end of ribbon connector goes to 'Master') reconnect and boot.
