CD Burner going EXTREMELY slow

All of a sudden, I can no longer burn a 21 track cd in 2minutes or less... Now it's taking 15+. and it says it's burning at 40x. Could someone please help me out?

 

Check and see if DMA is enabled. It's in Device Manager (can't say exactly where as you haven't specified the operating system).

Also, how much hard drive space do you have, and are you burning from an image, or on the fly?

What is the media rated at etc?

 

I'm on XP
I have a 160gb HD.. using about 70 of it
and it's MP3 format files.

 

Start, run and type in devmgmt.msc then OK.

Under IDE ATAPI controllers, double-click the Primary and the Secondary IDE Channels, then the Advanced Settings tab.

It should say if DMA if it's using DMA or not.


When burning the MP3 files, are you converting them, or just burning them as data files?

And what is the media rated at, and are you burning from a CD directly, or from a hard drive image?

 

and also when was the drive last defragged, if the data is all over the place the drive will really have to work to find it, i don't know if it can slow it down that much but depending on the drive it might be possible especially if your on a laptop with a 5400rpm drive or worse a 4200rpm one.
