I recently purchased a internal CD-RW Cd Burner from Ebay. The manufacturer is AOpen (weird brand I never heard of) and the model number is CRW5232/ARR. I st it up as a slave on my computer (assuming I did this correctly). I have two IDE slots. The primary IDE channel has my hard drive connected to it, and the seconday IDE channel has a CD-ROM drive set as master and the AOpen drive as a slave (assuming I did it correctly). It shows up as a DVD drive when I got to My Computer, and when I got to DVD Drive (E) > Properties > Hardware, it says the drive is a CD-Rom drive. Every cd burning program I have downloaded does not detect the Cd burner. Any help is appreciated.

    Hi Blade,

Are you using burner software that came with other Burners? Most are written so that they only work on the burner they came with.

    Good Luck, Jim

I have always used Windows Media Player to burn cds with the other cd burner drive that I previously owned, but WMP does not detect this AOpen drive. Neither does Nero, CDBurner XP, and a few other programs I have downloaded. I am puzzled as to why it shows up as a cd-rom drive rather than a CD-RW drive

I have had loads of AOpen drives in the past, and I have found them very reliable.

As for your issue, the problem is most likely that windows is seeing the drive as a CD-ROM rather than a CD-RW.

It's probably not the connection to the computer, as then nothing would work.

When you go to the hardware properties window you described in your first post, is the correct serial number displayed?

Problem has been fixed, seems due to my negligence, both the cd rom and cd-rw drives on my pc were set to MASTER on their jumper selections, causing some sort of conflict. Both were changed to CABLE SELECT, and now the cd-rw drive correctly show ups. Silly me :-o

    Don't worry, these things happen.

However, Cable Select needs a specialist cable to operate correctly, and unless you are sure you have this cable, I would recommend switching one device to master and one to slave.

    Hi Guys,

If it's working on Cable Select (CS) then obviously the cable is Cable Select. It must also be Master/Slave or you would have had other problems. Some are both MS and CS.

    Good Luck, JIm
