CD burner problems

My trusty rusty CPU has two CD decks init on the same umbilical with the DVD/CD player being the Master and the CD burner being the Slave. I have Windows Media Player & on the computer. The problem is that the ADptec DirectCD Wizard is telling me the burner is not supported and I can't get anything to work for burning. The manufacturer (Digital Research) is saying that this deck is supported by my operating system which is Windows 98. What can be the problem. Should I swap the Master/Slave Roles?

re cd burner problems: bought the CompUSA sale Mad Dog 3 in 1 dominator CD burner, and can't get the usb driver to load. (Nero burning software loaded fine, but data not getting through). icon in device manager shows "code 2" problem with "mass usb storage" device. have windows98se with outdated drivers, tried to add mad dog Orange usb2.0 driver from their cd but no luck. any similar problems? any suggestions for fix? thanks

 

Have you actually got usb 2.0 ports?

you need to find out what chipset the ports are and then download the latest drivers from the manufactorers web page.

if the drive is installing as a "mass storage usb device" then the drivers for that aren't the right ones either,
make sure it supports windows 98se and usb 1.1 if you don't have usb 2.
thats about all i can think of apart from forcing it to install as what it is. but you'd need to know where the inf files are for the hardware "probably on the cd somewhere"

The mainboard user guide says SIS740/SIS962L chipset supports USB 2.0, as for searching the CD, i don't have CD(borrowed computer), and Elite Group website doesn't bring up this older Mainboard (Socket A , K7SOM+) when i search webpage. Maybe owner still has cd...
