I have tried doing a manual start up of the IMAPI service but my cd burner won't even read the disks.

It used to work but then all of a sudden it just stopped working.

    My cd burner is a
    CDD4851 CD-R/RW

I have Windows Xp Home Edition with all updates.

    I use Nero Burning Rom.

was your "Nero" bundled with another CD drive? and you are trying to use the software for a new drive?

If the drive doesn't show up in the BIOS, make sure to check that it's not caused by a bad or loose ATA cable.

Does it read CD-ROMs? That is, does it only have problems with burned CD's? I like robo's idea of booting to the drive. That should help to tell you if there's a hardware problem or an OS (Windows XP) problem.

Ok I just put in a burned audio cd from a friend it it read it and it is playing it. I will attemp to make an audio cd for myself and see what happens.

Ok I tried burning my own audio disk and when I put in the blank cd, it read it for a bit then it just stopped. When I pressed eject, the cd was spinning out of control in the drive.

And before you ask, yes it is a blank cd because I tried putting a used one and it said that kind of disk is not useable etc etc.

    I have Nero version 5.5.9.14

If the burner is not seeing any disks at all, then we've definitely got a problem...does the drive show up ok in BIOS and/or Device Manager?

I have a CD burner on my Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 laptop that suddenly won't work at all.
When I try and put in the Windows 98SE disk it can't read it. The drive shows up in my device driver without any problems evident, but I don't know how to check the BIOS.

My thinking is the CD Burner is shot. Any suggestions for testing it out?

    Thanks,

    Tanya

Thanks, it worked. And the drive seems to like the W98 disk and now another one seems to work when it didn't before. Obviously the CD Rom Drive seems to be working. Many thanks!
