CD Drive Issue

Hi all, a while back I was burning some CDs on my Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop until my CD drive up and quit and refused to finish burning the third one. Since then I've had problems with getting the darn thing to work at all.

Ejection still works, and when I put in a CD the drive makes a noise like it's reading it. But if I attempt playing the audio it skips incessantly, and sometimes the CD just won't play at all. The light also appears to flicker every time the audio skips. (It'll still show information, though-- title of the album, song titles, etc.) I also can't import anything, it usually freezes the program, and the drive itself makes a noise like it's skipping. I can't burn blank CDs, either.

I know it's not an issue with the CDs-- I've tried several and all had the same problem.

I'm really unfamiliar with drives so if you have any questions to ask that might help, I'll be happy to answer. And if anyone can help me out I'd really appreciate it! Thanks.

Try uninstalling the drive and drivers through your device manager plus check the properties of the device to be sure its working properly and reboot, pull the drive from the laptop and reseat it
Worse case scenario, the drive is dying
