    Hello,

I had some malware problems, which is now cleaned up, but in the process Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool deleted/damaged the file:C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\imapi.sys

I was told in the malware removal forum (Here) that this was why my CD Drive is not working and was told to go to this forum. I also get this message when I try to enable the drive with Add Hardware: "Windows cannot start this hardware device because it's configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damged. (Code 19)"

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi

What Windows version and Service Pack (if applicable) are you using?

But try this HERE its a common but easy fix for issues like yours to try first.

    Hi,

I'm running XP SP3. When I try to run the tool I get an error right from the beginning: "Fix it troubleshooting cannot continue because an error occured: We're sorry, but the diagnostic solution encountered a runtime error. Please try again later."

I have tried re-downloading and running, but the same thing occurs.

    Thanks

    Open a command prompt...
Start | Run | Type: cmd | Click OK |
    Then type:

    sc query ImapiService

    and hit Enter.

    Is the ImapiService there?

    Have you rebooted?

Also if rebooted and not showing up still, open up Device Manager and open CD/DVD drives section and right click your drive if listed and choose uninstall, then reboot and Windows will re-install the driver,

If that doesnt work, then open up your PC and unplug the cables (power and IDE) to the drive and re-plug them in, then reboot.

    Hello,

Uninstalling the driver seemed to have fixed it!

Thank you both for your help! I think my PC is finally back to normal.
