CD drive playing up

It seems my CD drive now has a mind of it's own. At certain times, it randomly opens or closes and gets stuck half way or only an inch or two out or whatever. It mostly happens when I open itunes or some other media-related program I guess. I don't think it's anything to do with software though... If i press the eject button the same thing happens. It also happens when I turn my computer on. It now mostly stays ejected. If I press the button it will most likely go back in, make a few weird noises and come back out again.

Is my best bet basically getting a new one?


PS I ran the Dxdiag tool and attached the information... although it told me that DirectShow wasn't running properly and asked me if I should bypass it for now, which I said yes to. I don't know what all that was about...
