CD Drives dont appear

my cd drives dont work, they dont appear under my computer and when i try and add new hardware it doesnt read that they are there. a message box has popped up a few times saying that a certain file is corrupt that is making the cd drives unable to work but it rarely comes up so i dont know what it is. can someone help me out. CHEERS

 

What is the file? What operating system? Any other error messages?

 

im not sure of the file cause it rarely comes up. ther are other corrupt files like msnmsgr.exe. im running windows xp

 

device manager says that the the device is working properly but i cant even to get it to run CD's and i cant uninstall it either. i have a DVD drive and a cd burner but neither of them work. only one device shows up in device manager but as i said it doesnt work. PLZ HELP. CHEERS

 

when it says to put in the cd i put the cd in and the light just keeps flashin but nothing happens and when i hit retry it sats the cd you provided is the wrong cd please insert the windows xp professional cd-rom into tour cd-rom drive. If i select cancel it says windows might require you to insert a cd later. Are you sure you want to skip this file? What do i do?
