    Hi Guys -

Seems like I've come upon this problem again and again, and still haven't figured out a work-around. I currently use Nero 7 for Burning applications, CD and DVD, and there are a couple of things that frequently bug me.
    A. Nero seems awfully finnicky and doesn't seem to remember what it's supposed to do! I've had to uninstall and reinstall the program more than a few times for it to remember that indeed I own it, and it's all right to burn/copy dvds. The problem that provokes the uninstall/reinstalls is that when I try to burn/copy dvds, I receive the message: transcoding can not be completed. Hmmm.

    B. Here's the one that's currently got me scratching my head: Isn't there a way to record CDs while still retaining all session properties? i.e. track name, artist, name of CD/Album, etc.? The closest I've come is using Nero's Burning Rom process, burning a CD-Rom as an ISO 9660 File System. While this retains all pertinent subsequent to burning, it also burns to a CD in alphabetical order apparently by default of the ISO system. Is there a workaround so that I can retain the track listing in the order that I specify? Using Windows Media Player or ITunes to burn always saves the tracks in cda format which is obviously no help either. Seems like it shouldn't be that difficult to make a CD that when played by any player; computer or standalone player, will show artist name, title of CD, and track listing by title and not "unknown artist"; track 1, 2, 3, etc.
So.....is it just the nature of the processes or are there workarounds, or for that matter, other burning programs that will allow this?

I don't burn that many audio CDs, so I can't offer any exact information, but there are several good free burning applications here at Major Geeks that may do what you're looking for:
    AShampoo Burning Studio 6 http://www.majorgeeks.com/Ashampoo_Burning_Studio_6_FREE_d5937.html
    BurnAware http://www.majorgeeks.com/BurnAware_Free_Edition_d5839.html
    CDBurnerXP http://www.majorgeeks.com/CDBurnerXP_d4242.html
    StarBurn http://www.majorgeeks.com/StarBurn_d5936.html
There's many more in the Back Up download section here at MajorGeeks and many are free (FinalBurner, DeepBurner, ExpressBurn, are a few more).

I have a little gem from a few years ago just when Easy CD-DA Extractor went commercial (in the 4.0 version range). Its a trial I got from a PC Magazine cd that allthough its a trial its fully functional, and the only incentive it uses to get you to buy it, is a few seconds wait for it to load. Of course the newer versions are a little faster and more modern but they're not free, this is. I have a copy stored on RS somewhere let me look.

There should be no problem with posting the file since its a trial that just lasts for ever. If you like it you can buy the newer version.

One thing I never like about this one, is it put three icons on the desktop, one for each of its functions. But they're repeated in the start menu so I always deleted the two I didn't use very often. I used it basically for extracting to mp3 from my cd collection, not for burning back to cd although it does that too as well as convert between file types.

I use Nero 6 but I would imagine that Nero 7 is similar.
The program (within the Nero6 Suite) that I use is Nero Express.

As to the admittedly irritating rearrangement of the files, I've found that renaming the files from a.mp3 (where "a" is the file name) to 1a.mp3 allows you to get around the problem.

Opps! Sorry about that, I just remembered I deleted it cause it got no hits from a post about a similar problem. Its not big so I can upload again.

Here is a link I know is good:

This is one of those collectors gems, nice to have around for sharing. It does what you want a music ripping program to do with no bloat, a little under 6mb.
