I am experiencing a problem with both my CD and DVD drives on my Compaq PC. Both have been working just fine, and stopped working together. They don't show up under My Computer, but do show up in the device manager, with a warning/error symbol. Both are reading code 39. I know the drives are functioning, because they do light up, and I can eject with the buttons. Does anyone know what my problem may be, and the easiest way to fix it? I'm afraid it's a motherboard problem, but hoping it isn't.

If the above link doesn't work, try reloading your chipset software, then go to the Device Manager, right click each drive and select Uninstall, then reboot. Windows should detect the "new" drives and the drivers will be "reloaded".

As an add to my post. This link takes you to the same tutorial but with a download of a .reg file for your specific OS. That way you don't need to do it manually. Just double click on the file when the download is finished. That will add the reg entry the first tutorial talked about.
I used it on a friend's PC with the same problem and it worked perfect.
