I have a pc with an asus motherboard, I-7 processor, 32g of ram. My 2 sata drives will not read. They show up in Windows Explorer, but when I put a cd/dvd into a drive, there is nothing read. The cd/dvd are fine, because when I put them into another machine, they read and played.
Has anyone any ideas how I can fix this problem. One drive is brand new. Thanks.

i am running windows 7 64 bit. The drives appear in the my computer, but it asks for me to install a disk,
the disk is already in the player/recorder. None of the sata drives read. Could it be a driver problem? I tested to see, and the message I got was all are up to date. Any ideas?

It could be a driver problem - have you already looked in Device Manager > those drives > looked to see if they show as 'working normally' or not > and clicked on 'update driver' with an internet connection? If not, then do that now.

It could also be the case that the drive/s is/are faulty, or dirty, so Google how to clean a CD/DVD drive and do that.
The connections may also be faulty.

Don't get distracted by comments about Win10 - which is not your system - I have 4 upgraded Win10 systems and never had a problem with the CD/DVD drives on any of them.

In order for us to help you properly - when doing this kind of troubleshooting - you need to say quite clearly each action you took and whether you tested a disc again and any result, eg did Device Manager show the drives as 'working properly' or not, and when you clicked on 'update driver' did it find an update.
In terms of any cleaning of the drives and the actual laser eye, how did you do that.

In terms of using a driver updater, from my experience the best ones are DriverTalent or IoBit Driver Booster (with this one be very careful to UNCHECK the options for additional software!!). Make sure you Create A System Restore point BEFORE you run them.
