CD/DVD (E drive) doesn't work

I have had a problem in regards to my CD/DVD writer. When I put in an audio or data CD and I click onto the Drive E to try to access the content, a message prompts asking to put in a CD, therefore doesn't read that a CD has already been inserted. However, I am still able to play DVDs. The problem started when my computer had been hijacked by a trojan virus, so I scanned the virus and I got hold of the problem. Then, I realized the virus was titled "autorun.inf" and this was the file is supposed to read CDs. I can't retrieve it though, because I got rid of the infection soon after the scan.

Also, I re-installed my CD/DVD drive (i.e. COMBI RW 16x10/) using Device Manager, but the same problem still persists. To only make things worse, now the CD tray will not open, and sometimes my PC suffers a hang-up, and slows down the PC altogether.

Has my E drive been permanently damaged? Any help available would be much appreciated.

    download
Autoplay Repair 2.0.2 and run it,after you have run a virus scanner.

Thanks for replies, sorry that I didn't post sooner.

I used the program RemoveIT Pro v4 and it came up with two infections:
    *Infected with Sys32.MsUpdate
    *Infected with Sys32.winupdates

I already deleted these infections using the 'Fix' option. I also noticed though that as the scan was being processed, it had file entries such as "Sys32.Trojan". Could there be hidden trojan horses that this program isn't able to identify?

I have attached the 'Information.txt' report log from the RemoveIT program, so you can look at it analyze if you must.

One more thing, I installed the Autoplay Repair but a message prompts saying I must install a new version of the .NET framework - v2.0.50727.

Okay, I installed Trojan Remover 6.5.8 and did a scan. I received two "alerts" while the scan was being processed:

    1) C:\WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\wATV03nt.sys
File loaded by the following Resigtry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\iAimTV2\"ImagePath"

    2) C:\Program Files\Common Files\iS3\Anti-Spyware\SZServer.exe
File loaded by the following Resigtry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\szserver\"ImagePath"

I want to hear some recommendations before I do anything first and I made another attachment containing the log of this scan in case you want to see it.

those two alerts appear to be the trojan remover software,i'm not well up on the virus'es you are referring to they don't appear to be named in your attachment .perhaps someone else can assist on this issue.the .net framework is an update from 1.1 to 2 but there is a later version 3 ,these should have come through your microsoft update service.i believe there are hotfixes available.I had version2 when i used Autoplay repair

what system are you using is it xp
what media player are you using and what version
if like me you are unsure of the details you have been alerted to when scanning ,why don.t you download Hyjackthis ,and post the log to their forum for analysis
also you might want to keep this in case you need it later on http://dailycupoftech.com/configure-autoplay-with-tweakui/ you already have the Autoplay repair wizard.i would strongly suggest you get rid of the trojans when identified first.

as you have windows media 10, have you considered updating to wmp 11 ,you will not lose any data ,it automatically puts your music and saved dvd's into the updated version which is free, and it might have the effect of overcoming some of the symtoms you are experiencing, but you must get your system clean before this,we can come back to the autoplay repair later.

click on My Computer, click on dvd/rw ,E. right click Properties, select Hardware, highlight the dvd/rw type ,does the reading on the panel state that this device is working correctly?

  12. valdez

    valdez Private E-2

Yes, the device status has stated that the drive is working normally. Funnily enough though, the drive is read as COMBI RWx10/DVD. It's like to suggest that the CD-Rom component has been uninstalled.

Also, I can't update my WMP. Everytime I'm trying to look for updates from Microsoft, or even trying to install .NET Framework 3.0, nothing is working. It's either that the updates are unavailable or there are errors.

you do not have a separate cd rom ,its combined with the dvd rw.
now check ,control panel/admin tools/computer management/device manager, own to scroll dvd/cd rom drives, click on the + and you should see only this one drive, highlight this drive and click properties,on this panel you should see at the bottom, the drive enabled, again you should see this device is working properly, click ,Driver ,update driver.if no joy ,try system restore, from Accesories/system tools/click system restore, select restore to an earlier time.have you posted the hyjackthis log to the site i gave you.?

Thanks for the link, but I finally installed the framework today, along with the latest version of WMV. I just had to add the Microsoft website into the Proxy settings to support any available downloads.

As for the the SpywareInfo forum, I have registered but I am yet to receive an official email allowing me to post.

Now that I can access Autoplay Repair, how can I use this program for any use of my problem?

    dogsbody Private E-2

first do you still have the same problem,i/e you cannot move the dvd/rw drawer ?. second you must make sure your system is virus free, thirdly if you downloaded Autoplay repair wizard ,you would have been asked if you wanted to run this or save it to disc ,so you know where you parked it. click on it and follow the wizards suggestions and it should repair the dvd/rw software.if this does not do it then i'm afraid you will have to have this drive repaired or replaced. unless someone else has another fix.
