CD/ DVD issues

On my HP Pavilion dv2700, my CD/ DVD ROM will not work. I checked my device manager and it says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". So far I checked if there was a updated driver (There is none), downloading the driver just in case, and uninstalling the drive. When i reset the computer the CD/DVD ROM showed again and after all that i still get that code 10.

Any Ideas please.

 

By 'uninstalling the drive' I assume you mean that you went to the Device Manager, right-clicked the drive and selected "Uninstall" and rebooted the PC.... there's a chance that this was caused by malware (i've seen it happen) so run some scans and hopefully that isn't the problem. You can try a system restore to a date before the problem started, try a driver roll-back, or (if running XP) perform a safe repair install of XP from the CD.... you can also visit this link, download the fix for your version of Windows, unzip it, and merge the resulting .REG file in to the registry by double-clicking on it. restart the PC and hope for the best....

I called the tech support from my warranty. They will not cover it because it is "software" related. They recommend reformatting the computer "with the disks that came with the computer".. Just for kicks i asked "There where no disks what should i do"'. There reply and i kid you not was "YOU CAN MAKE THE DISK OFF YOUR COMPUTER". Umm OK.. I guess ill be getting an external for a while.
