CD DVD Rom not recognized

Good Day
I updated I tunes over Thanksgiving and went to burn a playlist and the dreaded cannot find cd rom drive came up, I know this is a problem with Apple
It is not in my device manager, I did a command prompt to locate the letter of the drive and did a volume list nothing is found
I sent for the drivers from compaq and even went into uninstalling I tunes and
reinstalling an earlier version and then removing the drive from the computer
I am stuck shall I use an external or is there something in the registry I need to do to get the device back up and running
Thanks and I will check back soon I haven't been here for a long time as I rarely need this kind of help unless I am fixing a PC so if you would help I would be thrilled

Hi

What Windows version and Service Pack (if applicable) are you using?

Try this and delete the Upper and Lower Filters as it tends to be the fix for this general issue.... HERE and HERE

Once run and if your CD/DVD is working ok you may need to re-install iTunes (if you use that) and your favoured burning software.
