CD/DVD ROM Problem

Hey guys my CD and DVD ROMs have disappeared from Mycomputer, one minute they were there and the next they have gone, i have tried installing the drivers but it wont let me, windows wont pick them up anymore.

I have though this could be the problem, i had my computer build for me by a friend and they installed Windows XP Pro, on to my system from their system, so i have never registered my OS system, now it wont let me get any updates or install or look for the drivers on my comp.

Could this be the prob?

Even if you dont have the mentioned app in ROXIO, this can still be the fix for that issue of Drives going missing from My Computer but still seen as ok in Device Manager

Delete upper and lower filters
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/en-us

Note: Care should be taken in editing the registry and before you delete any keys its best to right click the keys folder and Export ( backup that key )

on the other issue of a copied XP install, then no this issue shouldnt be linked to that, but you will be missing out on many crucial updates to XP.
