    Hallo

I have borrowed a P4 desktop with XP Proffessional on it, and downloaded Vista onto it. I made it into an ISO file using imgburn. When I tried to burn a disc, using imgburn, I got a message saying medium not found. I pulled the writers connector out and reconnected it. After that, when the desktop boots, it only gives me an option to press tab and go to post, or go to BIOS. I reinstalled XP hoping that would fix the problem but it did not. Each time I connect the writer, I cannot boot to the OS. Any ideas of how to fix this and get the writer working?

Is the CDROM on a separate cable from the HD?

If you have the CDROM connected and unplug the HD is the CDROM recognized?

    Thanks for replying.

The HD, CD ROM and DVD WR all lead off the same cable, separate plug connectors. The CD Rom is recognised, but I not the writer. The DVD WR software appears to have allocated itself to the CD ROM drive. I will try uninstalling and re installing the software. No light is appearing on the DVD WR. Disconnecting the HD did not seem to help.

    Hi,

Can you open the tray by the button? Even with the data cable disconnected that should be possible and a flash of the light when you insert a disk. If not then it is not geting power from the 4 pin power connector or the drive is defective.

    Good luck, Jim

    Hi Jim,

Thanks for your reply. It seems the power is not getting there, as the drive stopped being visible after I updated the driver via imburn - this is what imgburn suggested as the "medium was not found" I uninstalled the new driver, but that did not rectify the problem.

A gray ribbon cable has connectors for two devices, not three. If I'm misunderstanding the situation, please explain further.

I'd probably just attach the hard drive and the DVD burner to the cable, since you want to burn a DVD.

I'm guessing this is a SATA DVD writer.

What exactly did you do to update the driver? Was it done in Windows? What driver did you use--do you have a link to the driver?

Try unplugging the CDROM and using that power plug and connector for the DVD writer. Any change?
