CD Formatting

I have been using my cd-rw drive to back up data. the cd filled up today and
I would like to delete some of the files to create some space. When I try to
delete a file I'm told that it is a read only file and I can't delete it.
This happens on all of the files. I tried to format the CD and got the same
response.
I tried using a blank formatted cd and all works well. Any ideas as to what
is going on?

 

What burning software are you using?
if it's nero it has a function called drag and drop (at least i think it's called that).
and if your using roxio easy media creator 9 or earlier, it has a function called drag to disk, i hope that helps.

 

Hi Smok10 - Welcome to MajorGeeks. No disrespect intended, but a CD is a write once media. Erasing and deleting is not available on that disk. To enjoy the full power of your CD-RW drive, you will need CD-RW disks which will allow deleting and re-writing of files.

 

No disrespect taken the Disc is a CD-RW.

Hi, Smok. I have had a number of weird problems similar to what you describe with both cd-rw's and dvd-rw's. I have had a couple of discs full of "critical" files suddenly be reported as unreadable. I could never figure out why. I finally came to the conclusion that I would just go ahead and burn a regular cd-r or dvd-r and know that my files would be there when I needed them. I no longer use rewriteable discs of any kind. Good night and good luck.

 

Did you recently change form one burning software to another? That would cause a problem.
