cd player setup

how do i setup my cd player to start when i insert the cd, a window use to pop up letting me choose which program i want to use, but now it does not, i use windows 2k, the cd drive is a burner also, i have all the media players, realone, windows, etc. i search forum but found no instructions, thanks all

 

hi, try going into the properties of yor cd drive and click on the autoplay tab, if it is set to take no action when a cd is inserted, change it over to prompt me each time a cd is inserted..

you can see the properties by going into windows explorer and right clicking on the cd drive.

that is the first thing i tried, it dont give me that option, im fixing this computer up for a needy family for christmas, it has windows 2000 pro on it, and to be honest, i only know xp, i thought maybe that i just dont know how to setup this one, but the player works, it plays if i go to the media player and open it up, it burns the cds, i just cant get it to i think its call, autoplay when a disk is put in drive, now it will do an application disk, i loaded word perfect on it and it auto started it. any other ideas, thanks for reply

 

Some software can screw this setting.

There are two procedures, one with the Registry, and one in Windows Explorer.

 

that seem to be the problem, all is working fine now, thanks so much. i followed the instructions and rebooted and it will now autoplay.
