The memory wire needs direct power from the battery. IIRC it should be the orange one on the CD. If this is not connected then audio setting, time etc will not remain saved.
Below is the wiring colour code for a Nissan. Not the Maxima but should be the same. So in this case the memory wire from the player should be attached to the yellow.

You will also have to correctly wire the speakers for polarity.

    12V Ignition / Acc. . . . . . . . . . Red
    12V Batt / Memory. . . . . . . . . Yellow
    Ground. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Black*
    Power Antenna. . . . . . . . . . . . Blue
    Amp Turn-On . . . . . . . . . . . . . Blue / White
    Amp Ground. . . . . . . . . . . . . . Black / White
    Illumination . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Orange
    Dimmer . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Orange / White
    Right Front (+) . . . . . . . . . . . . Gray
    Right Front (-). . . . . . . . . . . . . Gray/ Black
    Left Front (+) . . . . . . . . . . . . . White
    Left Front (-). . . . . . . . . . . . . . White / Black
    Right Rear (+) . . . . . . . . . . . . Violet
    Right Rear (-) . . . . . . . . . . . . . Violet / Black
    Left Rear (+) . . . . . . . . . . . . . Green
    Left Rear (-) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Green / Black

    Proceed with caution LOL

The above information is from the Metra dash kit manual

Err...sorry :-o that is the standard wiring code for the player. You will have to attach the yellow wire (memory) to a wire in the car's dash harness with a constant current supply. Constant in the sense - even with the ignition key out. This will have to be located. If you don't have a multi meter a simple test lamp with a 12v bulb will suffice :)

    Cheers..
